Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has warned that the United States is planing to support separatist movements in various anti-Chavez departments in that oil-rich country.
According to Global Research , Chavez has warned of
[a] plan orchestrated by the United States to take control of natural and other economic resources in several states in the west of Venezuela….
“We are in Maracaibo, land of liberators and natural resources, but this is also the epicenter of a separatist plan orchestrated by Washington,” the president said. “Now,” pointed out Chavez, “the oligarchy and the counterrevolutionaries want to extend those manoeuvres to other departments, such as Merida, Apure and Falcon, in order to create a so-called divisionist chain.”
This is one of the oldest tricks in the book. One must not forget the separatist movements that were founded in the former Yugoslavia, which then proceded to tear the country apart into a boiling caldron of ethnic violence. This has largely been a success for the capital, because now every republic of Yugoslavia is a run by a right-wing cadre of free marketers.
Recently, Bolivia’s largely white and aristocratic state of Santa Cruz voted on “autonomy.” Bolivia’s president, Evo Morales, has already declared the votes illegal (and they are). These are the people who own Bolivia. They don’t like Morales’s reforms, so they demand autonomy.
Balkanization is an old trick, first tried out by the Hapsburgs in the Austrian/Austro-Hungarian Empire in what is now Yugoslavia. It is likely that such attemps will be tried here by the modern Hapburgs, the big oil and natural gas companies.

maybe we can balkanize this country — and let the more rational states have their country and let places like Utah and Oklahoma — that continue to vote republican and support bush — have their own
