Propaganda in Israeli Spy case

The story of the US citizen who passed secret information to an Israeli handler has been all over the news this last day or so.

I can not claim to be shocked, nor do I find this story worth researching. I do,however, consider it important to take a look at the language used in press reports relating to this story. The articles in major news media are directed towards the man at the center of the controversy, Ben-Ami Kadish, and not the state of Israel. Surely Israel must come under scrutiny for this act of espionage. Neither Kadish, nor his handler acted of their own accord, they were in the pay and direction of the Israeli state.

The Washington Post mentions at the end of their article that the Israeli embassy acknowledged that they were “formally informed of the indictment by the relevant authorities”. This is about the sum total of their analysis of this story as far as the Israeli state goes. Had this man been Iranian it would have been another story.

I think that we will soon see another Abu Ghrayib type trial where the low level operatives are punished and those truly responsible for instigating this action are given a free ride due to their position either in the government or in geopolitical standing.

As long as the focus of this story is directed towards Kadish and not the Israeli state, the story will go nowhere and is largely irrelevant.
